Ben has been honing his gardening skills for over 2 decades, in particular through his work at Basils Farm where he established the pottager garden and market gardens which provide fresh produce for the restaurant. Ben has also been facilitating edible garden workshops since 2014. Ben completed his Permaculture Design Course in 2011 and Permaculture Teacher Training in 2018. He has been using permaculture design principles to design and improve his urban backyard food forest and helping individuals and communities create edible gardens.

Ben has transformed his previously barren backyard in Manifold Heights, Geelong into a bountiful food forest using permaculture design principles and organic gardening. Ben's house has been used as an example of sustainable gardening for Sustainable House Day on three occasions. His garden has also been featured in the Age, Green Magazine & Homelife as an example of a well designed, productive permaculture garden.
